چکیده

Enhanced oxidative stress is reported as one of the main determinants of aging and age related events. Several parameters of blood have been demonstrated to be negatively affected by increased oxidative stress including changes in erythrocyte membrane fluidity and integrity, which results into overall malfunctioned cellular physiology. Present study was aimed to determine the erythrocyte osmotic stability during aging in humans and the effect of myricetin treatment. Results obtained from the study show a significant (p < 0.0001) age dependent decline in the stability of erythrocyte as evidenced by enhanced osmotic fragility in aged individuals which was significantly correlated with radical scavenging capacity of plasma. Myricetin at 10μM significantly (p < 0.05) protected osmotic lysis of erythrocytes obtained from different age subjects.

Protective Effect of Myricetin on Proteins and Lipids of Erythrocytes Membranes

Myricetin (3, 5, 7-Trihydroxy -2(3, 4, 5-trihydroxyphenyl) 4-chromenone), a naturally occurring flavonol, is a potent scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and effectively prevent erythrocyte oxidation. The protective effect of myricetin on proteins and lipids of erythrocytes membranes was investigated. Erythrocytes membranes were subjected to oxidative stress by incubating them with 10 M ...

Protective Effect of Quercetin on Oxidative Stress in Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase-Deficient Erythrocytes in Vitro

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficient subjects are vulnerable to oxidative stress. Quercetin, a flavonoids, has been employed as a potent oxygen-free radical scavenger in order to assess the protective effects of quercetin against H2O2-induced oxidative damage in G6PD-deficient and normal human erythrocytes. Erythrocytes of G6PD-deficient (n = 10) and normal (n = 10) subjects were ...

Effect of Myricetin, Pyrogallol, and Phloroglucinol on Yeast Resistance to Oxidative Stress

The health beneficial effects of dietary polyphenols have been attributed to their intrinsic antioxidant activity, which depends on the structure of the compound and number of hydroxyl groups. In this study, the protective effects of pyrogallol, phloroglucinol, and myricetin on the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae were investigated. Pyrogallol and myricetin, which have a pyrogallol structure in t...

Ameliorative properties of aqueous extract of Ficus thonningii on erythrocyte osmotic fragility induced by acetaminophen in Rattus norvegicus

In vitro antioxidant and erythrocyte protecting activities by aqueous extract of Ficus thonningii leaves on blood cells were studied in acetaminophen treated rats. The extract was safe at limit dose of 5000 mg kg-1body weight. The extract demonstrated dose dependent antihemolytic effect at dose levels between 50 and 200 m...
